Sell insurance products from home — licensed positions

Remote insurance sales jobs have been a staple of work-from-home selling long before the tech industry caught on. Insurance — life, health, property & casualty, and commercial — is inherently relationship-driven, and most of the sales process can be conducted over phone and video.
The insurance sales landscape is massive. Over 400,000 insurance agents and brokers work in the US alone, and the industry generates $1.3 trillion in annual premiums. Remote positions span captive agents (selling for one carrier like State Farm or Allstate), independent agents (selling multiple carriers), and inside sales reps at insurtech companies.
Compensation structures vary widely. Captive agents typically earn $40K-$60K base with $70K-$120K total comp including commissions and renewals. Independent agents on commission-only structures can earn $100K-$300K+ once they build a book of business. Insurtech inside sales roles pay $50K-$70K base with $90K-$140K OTE.
To sell insurance, you need a state license (Life & Health, Property & Casualty, or both). Licensing requires passing an exam — most people prep in 2-4 weeks using online study materials. Many companies sponsor your licensing and provide training. The barrier to entry is low, making it an excellent path for career changers.
